With so many drones to choose from the question that comes up is: “What is the best drone for you?”
So to help you decided what the best drone for you really is, we will take a closer look at the different DJI consumer models.
DJI Consumer Quadcopters
DJI has 3 different consumer drone lines on the market. That might make it seem like it’s even more difficult to choose. Especially as they essentially all do the same thing, they fly and they make photos and videos. So we’re back to the same question, what is the best drone for you?
Don worry. It’s not nearly as complicated as it may sound. All 3 lines are aimed at different groups of drone pilots.
DJI Phantom – Top of the line drone for those who want the best of the best!
The DJI Phantom 4 represent the top of the line consumer drones, period. Not only is it the best drone DJI offers, it is the best consumer drone line that is currently available on the market. These are definitely the drones for the most demanding consumers.
So if you’re looking for a top of the line product, look no further. You found it.
The DJI Phantom 4 is the best drone for you.
Let us tell you why.
High quality video, great photos, Obstacle Avoidance and all of DJI’s intelligent flight modes really set these drones apart for the competition. Nobody else can currently even come close to the performance that is delivered by the DJI Phantom series.
DJI currently supports 4 different Phantom models. The DJI Phantom 4, the DJI Phantom 4 Advanced, the DJI Phantom 4 Professional and the DJI Phantom 4 Obsidian.
So what’s the diference between the different Phantom models?
We’ll show you in the table below.

As you can see, the DJI Phantom 4 is the most “basic”. It has a great camera and good flight time/distance. That said, even these improve when we get to the other models.
The next step up is the DJI Phantom 4 Advanced. It adds a better camera and even more flight time to what the Phantom 4 already offers.
The Phantom 4 Pro, Phantom 4 Pro + and the Phantom 4 Obsidian have all the amazing features of the Phantom 4 Advanced, but they also have 5 direction obstacle avoidance. So they’re even saver to fly than the Phantom 4 / Phantom 4 Advanced.
All three also deliver your live stream in both 2.8 and 5.6GHz which means you are less likely to have interference problems. Simply said, the video signal is better which means you see where you’re flying.
Aside from that there are some minor differences between the Phantom 4 Pro, the Phantom 4 Pro + and the Obsidian.
The Phantom 4 Pro + has an integrated screen in the remote controller. This means that you can fly the Phantom 4 Pro + without having to connect your phone or tablet to the remote controller to see where you’re flying.
The Phantom 4 Obsidian is pretty much the Phantom 4 Pro with a beautiful matte gray shell. This gives the Phantom 4 Obsidian a slightly more professional look. But basically the choice between the Phantom 4 Pro and the Phantom 4 Obsidian comes down to your preferred color.

The DJI Mavic – Perfect for travelers and enthusiasts!
Because the DJI Mavic is a foldable drone it is the ideal companion for those of us who travel as lot.
Even before you fold the arms the DJI Mavic is already smaller than the DJI Phantom 4. But when you fold the arms it becomes even smaller. Not only that, you have no arms sticking out of the drone anymore. This makes it much easier to take the DJI Mavic along on your trips. If you travel a lot then the DJI Mavic is definitely the best drone for you.
But don’t be fooled by it’s size though. The DJI Mavic has lots of features and delivers excellent quality photo and 4K video. And with it’s 27-minute flight time (30 for the Platinum) and 4.3M/7KM control range it is the perfect companion for outdoor activities.
And, of course, it has all the intelligent flight modes that we know from DJI. This means anybody can fly the DJI Mavic, even somebody who has never flown a drone before.
The DJI Mavic Platinum was the recently released upgrade to the DJI Mavic Pro. Thanks to it’s new speed controllers and new propellers it is more quiet than the DJI Mavic Pro. Not only that, it also gets a bit more flight time than its older brother. If you can afford the price difference we recommend getting the DJI Mavic Platinum over the DJI Mavic Pro but they are both excellent drones.

The DJI Spark – The best drone for beginners by far!
The latest addition to the DJI consumer line up is the DJI Spark.
This mini drone is the cheapest drone DJI offers. But don’t let the price trick you into believing it is a cheaply made product.
The DJI Spark still features all of DJI’s signature technologies. And it has a 12mp camera that helps you capture amazing aerial selfies and video. It’s the best drone to quickly capture some moments in high quality.
On top of that, the DJI Spark is incredibly easy to fly. You don’t even need a remote control as you can fly the DJI Spark with gesture control. This makes it incredibly easy to quickly launch and take a selfie while you’re on the go.
The DJI Spark really is the perfect drone for beginners. If you haven’t flown a drone before than the DJI Spark is the best drone for you to start with.

The question “what is the best drone for you” can only be answered in one way: “it depends”.
If you want the best of the best then the DJI Phantom 4 Pro, Pro + or Obsidian is the best for you. You will get the best of DJI’s camera technology in a super stable package. But it comes at a price. The Phantom line is the most expensive of DJI’s consumer drones.
If you travel a lot then there is no doubt, the DJI Mavic Platinum is the best drone for you. It’s light and because it’s foldable you can easily take it anywhere you go. And the camera is only marginally below the Phantom 4’s camera. Most people won’t even be able to tell the different when they’re looking at your videos. And best of all, it’s a bit cheaper so you’ll have more money to travel.
If you’re just starting out or if you want a small drone that you can take along to make some selfies from time to time then the DJI Spark is the best drone for you. It’s also the cheapest out of all DJI Consumer lines so when you learn to fly you don’t have to worry about that but you can just have fun with it.
Whichever drone you get, they will all deliver a great experience and you’ll have endless fun flying them.
